AutoShutdown Editor's Review

Take charge of your PC's restart and shutdown schedule with this must have Windows utility.

One of the biggest problems with Windows systems is that they need to be periodically restarted to insure that they perform well.  In many cases, people don't bounce their boxes until it's way too late, and by that time, you're likely going to wait a long time for it to cycle back around to useable after you manually shut the thing down. This is one of the reasons why I really like Auto Shutdown. It’s a shutdown and restart utility for Windows systems.

The best performance from any Windows system is usually experienced just after a restart. After a while, your PC starts to experience performance issues, usually because it's got a bunch of crap stuck in RAM that it doesn't need any more. The best way to clear that all out and return it to peak performance is to either shut it down or restart it. If this is the case, Auto Shutdown is for you.  It’s a simple utility that allows users to schedule times for their computers to shut down or restart. It's really a simple too, but it's easy to use; and its scheduling process is very customizable.

The program's interface is simple, with only a couple of tabs containing drop-downs. Users simply select the action they want to the program to take – turn off, restart, or standby – and then choose a time for it to happen. Auto Shutdown can be set to execute in a certain number of minutes, on specific days of the week, or on a specific date. When choosing a day of the week or specific date, users can specify an exact time for Auto Shutdown to execute. It also allows users to set keyboard shortcuts for shut down, restart, standby, hibernate, and log off.

App Pro’s: Free, easy to use, schedule is easy to customize

App Con’s: Requires users to set a password before it can be used.

Conclusion: The program is easy to use, but requires users to set a password on their account before it can be used.  You can't get to the UI until this is done. Auto Shutdown is free; and installs and uninstalls without issues. I'd recommend this program to all Windows users.
